Personal financial advisors give advice to people and help them make decisions about what to do with their money. An important part of the job is talking with their clients to help them set goals for the future. Advisors help clients plan for retirement, plan for paying for college for their children, and how to make the best choices for where to put their money. Many also provide tax advice or sell insurance. Personal financial advisors usually work with many clients and often must find their own customers. This is a very important part of being a successful personal financial advisor. You must be very honest and ethical to be a personal financial advisor. You also need very good speaking skills.
Duties:
• Financial advisors have in-person meetings to get information from a client. They talk about goals and how much money the client has.
• Makes a plan for the client, making sure the goals and the plan are o.k. with the client.
• Talks to financial analysts, accountants, or lawyers to get more information for the client.
• Financial advisors usually meet with clients at least once a year to make sure that there are no changes and to answer any questions.
• Financial planners must teach their clients about what could happen to their money so they are not disappointed.
Where and When:
• Personal financial advisors usually work in offices or their own homes.
• Personal financial advisors usually work standard business hours, but they also schedule meetings with clients in the evenings or on weekends. Many also teach evening classes or hold seminars to bring in more clients.
• Some personal financial advisors travel to attend conferences or training sessions or to visit clients.

Education and Training:
• Bachelor's degree
• Pass a special test, called a Certified Financial Planner exam.
• To become a Certified Financial Planner takes about 3 years working as an advisor.
