
Description:
Transportation engineers make plans to improve or create new streets and highways.
Duties:
• Make plans for new transportation systems such as airports, train stations, bridges, and highways.
• Check the repair of transportation systems.
• Check plans to build or improve new systems.
• Test construction materials.
• Look at ways to solve traffic problems.
• Look at ways to make roads safe.
Where and When:
• Most work for private businesses.
• Many work for the government.
• Some work for construction.
• Most engineers work Mon.-Fri.during the day.
• Some may work nights and weekends to finish big projects.

• Digital cameras
• Printers
• Notebook Computers
• Telephone with many lines
• Mobile radios
• Traffic software
• Map software
• Project and report software
Education and Training:
• Most require a Bachelor's degree (4 years of college) with some classes in engineering.
