
Description:
Lay out, assemble, install, or maintain pipe systems or pipe supports for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, or industrial production or processing systems.
Duties:
• Cut, thread, or hammer pipes according to directions using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders, or pipe benders.
• Assemble or secure pipes, tubes, fittings, or related equipment.
• Attach pipes to walls, structures, or fixtures using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment.
• Inspect, examine, or test installed systems or pipe lines.
• Measure and mark pipes for cutting or threading.
Where and When:
• May work at construction sites.
What or Who They Work With:
• Works with pipes, tubes, and other equipment.
• Uses tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders, or pipe benders.
Education and Training:
• Most have a Post-Secondary Certificate in Mechanics and Repairs or Engineering-related Technologies.
• Most have at least 2 years of related work experience.
• Most of several years of on-the-job training.
