
Description:
Perform surgery and related procedures on the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial regions to treat diseases, injuries, or defects.
Duties:
• Administer general and local anesthetics.
• Remove impacted, damaged, and non-restorable teeth.
• Evaluate the position of the wisdom teeth.
• Treat infections of the oral cavity, salivary glands, jaws, and neck.
• Remove tumors and other abnormal growths of the oral and facial regions, using surgical instruments.
Where and When:
• Work in a medical setting.
• Usually work during the day, up to five days per week.
What or Who They Work With:
• Work with patients requiring surgical procedures in the mouth/face area.
• Work with surgical equipment and supplies.
Education and Training:
• Oral Surgeon attend Medical School
• Some have years of related work experience.
