
Description:
Medical equipment repairers fix and test equipment used by doctors. They make sure the special equipment is working well to help people that are sick. They may work on X-ray machines, CAT scanners, ultrasounds, and electric wheelchairs. They may also fix special dental equipment and machines used by an eye doctor.
Duties:
• Measure, test, and fix equipment used at a hospital.
• Write down or type in a computer how they fixed the equipment.
• Clean, test, and adjust the machines to keep them working well.
• Protect others by checking equipment to make sure it is safe.
Where and When:
• Most work in hospitals.
• Some may also work for companies that visit doctors offices, dentist offices, and other places to fix medical equipment.
• They may visit orthodontists, veterinarians, and medical schools to fix equipment.
• Most work during the day.
• Most must be "on call" for emergency repairs.
• Many must travel to fix machines.

• Soldering irons
• Electric Tools

• Patient heart monitors
• Defibrilators
• Operating Tables (voice controlled)
• They work with doctors to find out what is wrong with the machines.
• They must work near patients at times.
Education and Training:
• Most have an Associate's degree (2 years).
• Most must have a Bachelor's degree (4 years) to move up in the job.
• Some have a high school diploma or GED.
