
Description:
Clean teeth and examine mouth, head, and neck for signs of oral disease. May educate patients on oral hygiene, take and develop X-rays, or apply fluoride or sealants.
Duties:
• Clean a patient's teeth using dental instruments.
• Record and review patient medical histories.
• Teach patients how to take better care of their teeth and gums.
• Clean dental tools.
• Take x-rays of teeth.
Where and When:
• Dental offices or clinics.
• Usually normal hours, but some evenings and weekends may be required.
What or Who They Work With:
• They work very closely with dentists.
• Dental lasers
• Tooth polishers
• Dental probes
• X-ray machine
Education and Training:
• An Associate's degree is usually required, but many also have Bachelor's degree.
• A special test and license is required in most states.
