Description:

Forensic Science Technicians help forensic scientists and the police to solve crimes by looking at evidence from crime scenes.

Duties:

• Collect things from a crime scene that might help catch the criminal.
• Use chemicals and other science to look at things like fingerprints, hair, and footprints to help the police.
• Use a camera to take pictures of the crime scene.
• Sometimes they have to talk in front of a judge during a trial.

Where and When:

• Forensic Science Technicians usually work for the police or for the government.
• They spend a lot of time in a lab, but they do have to go out to where a crime happened to collect things.
• Forensic Science Technicians have to be able to work long hours and sometimes at night.

What or Who They Work With:

• Footprint lifters
• Tape measures
• Cameras and video cameras
• Lab equipment
• Fingerprint equipment
• Gloves and safety clothes

Education and Training:

• Bachelor's Degree
• Forensic Science Technicians must have good science and writing skills; they must also be very good at being still and looking at things very closely.
